Our bones were made to last a lifetime. When talking about bone health, I usually mention the importance of minerals. But today, I’m going to talk about something else that is great for your bones.

But, did you know that exercise can make your bones healthier?
According to the NIH, the best exercise for your bones is the kind that forces you to work against gravity. Some examples include walking, hiking, stair climbing, dancing, and weight training (as opposed to non weight-bearing ones like swimming or cycling). These types of exercises can help your body grow denser and stronger bones.
When you put stress on a bone during exercise, the cells in your bones respond by creating more bone tissue. This is called osteogenesis, and tends to concentrate in areas that are directly affected by the exercise.
Starting an exercise routine doesn’t have to be difficult. Just set aside as little as 5 minutes a day for starters and then work your way up to 30 minutes. Go slowly and gently and consult with your doctor before starting an exercise program if you suffer from health problems.
And, remember to make sure you get 600mg of calcium per day from your diet. But unless you eat lots of dairy, I know this can be hard to do.
